Safety
Every cylinder comes equipped with an Overfill Prevention Device (OPD), which complies with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations. The OPD is a specially designed float device that prevents accidental overfilling, which can cause undesirable gas venting. An OPD valve also stops the flow of gas when a tank is not connected. In addition, every Affordable Gas cylinder is safety inspected and leak tested by a trained Affordable Gas employee.

The typical transaction is as follows:
- When you arrive at a retail location, leave the cylinder in your car or outside next to the Exchange Cage if you are exchanging an empty cylinder. You must never bring a propane cylinder indoors.
- Proceed to the cashier to inform him/her that you have a cylinder that you would like to exchange or that you want to purchase a spare cylinder.
- The cashier will let you know the appropriate exchange or sale price. Pay the cashier.
- If you left a cylinder in your car to exchange, bring it to the Exchange Cage. A store clerk will accompany you to the Exchange Cage and assist you in obtaining a full, safety-compliant cylinder from the cage.
